April and May 2022 Timetable and Enrolment Information

Dear Recovery College Students and Friends,

The SLaM Recovery College team are pleased to offer you the latest update to the curriculum and timetable update for April and May 2022.  In the Course Descriptions pdf document below you will find the latest course descriptions and timetable.

The Recovery College collaborations with The Horniman Museum and Gardens and The Comedy School bring two new courses in April: ‘Nature for Wellbeing and Planet Audio Challenge’ and ‘Introduction to Illusionary Mime Technique’ plus the return of the popular Improvisation Online course in May.  Also new for April is our  monthly ‘Research Club’ session to give service users and carers the opportunity to learn about mental health research that has taken place locally and how to get involved in contributing to research and innovation.

New workshops and courses for May !!!
  •  'Transition - Moving from CAMHS to Adult Services' will focus on the experiences of young people and their families moving from youth to adult mental health services with SLaM.  The first workshop is open to people from all SLaM's boroughs, with the next two focusing on Lambeth.
  • Running for Recovery - join members of the Recovery College team in Ruskin Park to complete  the Couch to 5K programme over 12 weeks, and do a 5Km part run in August.  You don't have to be an athlete to take part. Everyone is welcome and you will be supported on the fitness journey!
  • Walking into Spring - a three part online course to help you develop confidence to start walking outdoors for enjoyment and the mood enhancing benefits for wellbeing with an optional walk in Ruskin Park on week 4
  • Yoga for Mental Health and Wellbeing (Online) - join Tess, a yoga instructor and SLaM Occupational Therapist for live online mindful yoga on Mondays from 10:00am to 11:00am and then recorded sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The  Recovery College team is making a  transition back to classroom-based courses and workshops at ORTUS on the Maudsley Hospital site, Mosaic Clubhouse in Brixton, The Horniman Museum, The Comedy School and The Wellness Centre in Croydon.  We hope that you will feel confident to join us again and experience coproduced wellbeing education in person!  The college will continue to offer online opportunities for those students who prefer to learn from home or their workplace.

With so much on offer over the next six weeks  there’s something in the curriculum for everyone.
If you would like to learn more about what is on offer at SLaM Recovery College, please visit our weekly Monday student support drop in sessions at ORTUS from 10am-4:00pm and at The Wellness Centre, Croydon from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Monday 23rd May.  The SLaM Recovery College Digital Inclusion project also continues on Monday afternoons at ORTUS.  Please email hello@slamrecoverycollege.co.uk for more information about any student support needs.
