What do we offer?
Our college offers a learning approach to support people to live as well as possible ('recovery') to complement the clinical support a person, their family and friends are offered by the Trust. Staff members working for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust are also encouraged to participate to support their own understanding of service user and carer experiences of using mental health services. A wide range of courses and workshops are offered throughout the year, all taught collaboratively by people with lived experience of long term health conditions and people with expertise by job role.
The ethos of coproduction is a the heart of everything we do.

A film about SLaM Recovery College
This is a short, 15 minute film about the work of our college. We hope that after watching it you will have some inkling of the passion and commitment of our staff and trainers. But, more importantly, we hope that it will give you an idea of the positive impact the college is having on the lives of our students.
It was shot and directed by Steven Tart and edited by Belal Ladkani. Many thanks to everyone who took part in the making of the film.

A film about the Tree of Life
For over 2 years, a service user co-led workshop project called the Tree of Life was run on SLAM’s adult acute in-patient wards. Over that period the workshops were attended by over 650 service users, and nearly 300 members of staff helped to create the ‘Forest of Life’ in SLAM. In 2015 the project won a national mental health award for ‘equality and diversity in service provision ‘and a highly commended for ‘patient experience’.
This film celebrates the co-production values, and commitment to providing compassionate care, that are at the heart of the Tree of Life project.
The Tree of Life Team also run workshops as part of the college’s curriculum, and Dr Julie Fraser, the Lead for the Tree of Life workshops, can be heard in the Radio 4 All in the Mind segment that you can listen to below.

A film about our Comedy School improvisation course
We are now able to offer two fantastic courses from the Comedy School, thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, one focused on Improvisation and one on Stand Up. This film was recorded at the Ritzy in Brixton, where students from our very first Improvisation course performed before an enthusiastic audience.

Below is an extract from All in the Mind, first broadcast on December 15th 2015, about the college and the Tree of Life project. It is presented by Claudia Hammond and produced by Pam Rutherford. Many thanks to everyone who took part.
