Autumn/Winter 2024 Timetable
Our face to face courses taking place in local venues are free of charge and open to:
- People who use SLaM services
- Supporters (carers, family and friends) of SLaM’s service users
- People who have been discharged from SLaM services within the last six months and their supporters
- Anyone working with SLaM as a volunteer or peer supporter or who is on the SLaM Involvement Register
- SLaM staff (not including students on clinical placement)
Our online courses are free of charge and open to anyone who would like to participate
(with a few exceptions).
A referral from a clinician or service isn’t required to enrol at the college. As a student, you can choose which courses interest you or suit your needs. All we’d ask is that, if you do put your name down for a course, you make every effort to attend.
Places for all our courses are in high demand so if you can’t attend for any reason, please contact the Recovery College office as soon as possible so your place can be offered to someone on the waiting list. Please note that you also need to be aged 16 or over to come to any of our courses. Please see page 21 to find out how to enrol.
Please note: Enrolment for a few of our online courses may be restricted to people who can demonstrate a connection to SLaM (as a service user, staff member, carer, volunteer, peer supporter or involvement register member). Please refer to the timetable or the enrolment form for more information.

Course and Workshop Formats
Our courses take place in a variety of formats, the format of each session will be stated in the course description. The formats are:
Classroom
These are face-to-face sessions where you take part in-person, together with other students, at one of our community venues. See page 19 for details of this term’s venues. To take part in any of our classroom sessions you need to have a current or recent connection to SLaM, as detailed in the section “who can attend SLaM Recovery College?”. Please note that we do not provide refreshments at our face-to-face courses and venues will vary in terms of what is available to students. We advise students to bring a bottle of water and their own provisions for lunch if doing a full day workshop.
Microsoft Teams meetings or Zoom
These are online courses via Microsoft Teams or Zoom, in which students can be seen and heard by the facilitators and each other. These sessions
are not recorded. Most of the sessions run in this format are open to all, but there is the occasional exception - please check the course details.
Microsoft live events (Webinars)
Microsoft have phased out Live Events. Because of this, the RecoveryCollege will be changing the way we run webinars.
We will now be running them in the new Town Hall format. This is Microsoft’s new webinar format, replacing the now defunct Live Event one. The attendee experience will be much the same - attendees still won’t be seen or heard (your camera and microphone will be disabled) and the sessions will be recorded. The main difference is that you’ll no longer be able to use your joining link to watch the recording. Instead, we will send you a new link shortly after the event has taken place.
