The LGBTQIA+ Young Persons' Project Dare Sessions
Twelve-week course | A three-hour session each week
Project Dare, in partnership with South London and Maudsley Recovery College, has been given National Lottery funding to see if our award-winning Dare Sessions workshops can benefit the young LGBTQIA+ community.
The course employs drama, performance, and a variety of practical activities that explore body image, practice self-compassion and nurture self-esteem. These all-practical workshops aim to chip away at the body image insecurities of participants and to support ‘Darers’ on their journey of feeling comfortable being in the skin they are in. The emphasis is on celebrating the body and having fun.
The activities taken each week will depend on the specific group and are subject to change, but you can expect to learn skills actors and actresses learn for confidence on stage, to act in scenes and to explore movement, voice and physicality. A sense of play is a key ingredient to bring along as each session you will partake in warm-up activities and games.
Previous participants have created their own acts to perform in a final showcase, have choreographed dance routines, improvised and devised theatre and written pieces of spoken word or poetry. Sometimes we use Forum Theatre, and often we explore image.
You are supported at each stage of the process and do not need any particular skill-set to take part. However, it is 90% practical and involves you working as a team player. It is for all sizes and fitness levels. We will do our very best to support your involvement if you have a particular need.
