The NOW Project

Fantastic creative learning opportunity for SLaM Recovery College LGBTQI+ students!

If you would like to take part in an online digital arts programme on Zoom with like minded people, then the Now Project is for you. It is both a social and creative course, where we can all share our ideas, tastes and talents (yes, we all have them). Any level of experience is welcome, from complete beginners to seasoned pros, there is space for everyone.

The course runs on the following Thursdays, 2 –4 pm:

March 10
March 17
March 24
March 31
April 7
April 28
May 5
May 12

You must commit to attending all sessions, and we have five spaces available. Please enrol quickly!

For 8 weeks, we will combine all forms of digital art to create our own piece focusing on the now. Whether it’s an issue we are facing, what’s happening in the world or just something you want to get off your chest, that’s all fine with us. It will be delivered in a therapeutic way in a safe space with seasoned practitioners Dee Edney and Vee Yo, who are both artists and trained in mental health and mindfulness and David Jahans, senior peer recovery trainer from SLaM Recovery College.

We will create a sound piece, with participants either taking control over our dedicated audio software to create some music, or writing some words to go with the music in the other break out room. This can range from a pop rock song to a soundscape, with the words sung, rapped, spoken or even overlayed in text on our visual part with anything from stories, songs, positive affirmations, or quotes. Literally anything you can think of.

Visually we can create a collage of any type of visual art available to us such as photos, video footage, animations, or drawings that represent our theme. You will have a safe, online cloud space to upload and share with the practitioners and other participants any work of your own you wish to be included in the project, or even just leave a link to a video you like so we can all watch it and discuss it. We will then combine all of this together in the video software to create our final piece.

There are no rules or limits to the course, only that you have fun. We look forward to seeing you there on Thursday 10th March. Let those creative juices flow!!!
